A Little Bit About Me
I am an established corporate/editorial photographer situated in Toronto, Canada, devoted to creating unique, positive images for clients who understand the need for outstanding custom imagery.
Photography has been, remains, and always will be a lifelong passion.
My work inevitably gravitates to my knowledge of the Sports World, and appreciation for the Performing Arts. Whether I’m in Santiago de Cuba shooting Fidel Castro’s Choir in a 17th Century Cathedral, or standing on the Montreal Canadiens bench on a Saturday night,(I still pinch myself, ha) each and every assignment I take becomes it’s own unique experience, and for the duration of the shoot, nothing else exists. Of all the valuable tips I digested in my photographic development …”if it’s not good enough, you’re not close enough”…”watch your peripheral lines”…”there’s always a better angle”, the most important was the constant stressing I endured in college about the relevance of the relationship and collaboration between Photographer/Client-Model-Subject. I was lucky enough to get an assignment to shoot Don Cherry in his ‘top five suits.’ He walked in with an 8×10 print as a frame of reference and snapped “I want it to look like this.” The image was like all images I had seen of him, ‘straight on, blank expression, thumb up. I paused, explained what I had in mind, and he reiterated, “I know what the fans want”, and to boot, the lighting was nothing like the set up I had just spent hours testing. After gathering myself and climbing the ladder for the first shot, he let out a loud “what are you doing?”…45 minutes later we were sharing a laugh in the parking lot, having covered both our perspectives, and I was happy to see the magazine covers ran with my viewpoint, with a ‘Thumb’s Up’ from Don.
There are far too many influences in my photographic life to mention here, but I would like to say that I admire the classic work of Henri Cartier-Bresson, and marvel the aesthetics of an Ansel Adams print. I used to think if only I could capture Cartier-Bresson’s ‘decisive moment’ and fashion it in an Adams kind of way.
Quality photography is enjoying a renaissance now that year’s of cheap stock photography has proven to be a marketing liability.
Individuals and business are looking for work that will cultivate and improve their image. I look forward to the journey, and hope we can collaborate.
